Professor Boxiang Wang, China's leading liver disease expert to co-present with Dan Wen on Treating Chronic Liver Disease with TCM at the Building Bridges of Integration Conference, New Jersey, Oct 6-8, 2006

A co-lectured seminar by Prof. Boxiang Wang and Dr. Dan Wen on the treatment of liver diseases will highlight the Building Bridges of Integration Conference on Oct 6 in East Rutherford NJ. Prof. Wang is the leading expert in integrative treatment of hepatitis in China with over 50 years of experience. Dr. Dan Wen was the first graduate student under Prof. Wang at the Liver Institute of Hubei College of TCM in the mid-80's. This mentor-student joint presentation represents two generations' perspectives on TCM treatment of chronic liver diseases.

Prof. Boxiang Wang, Honorary Director of Liver Institute of Hubei College of TCM

Professor Wang graduated from Hubei Medical College in 1954. He is China’s leading expert on the treatment of liver diseases. For the past 52 years, he has engaged in patient care, clinical research and academic teaching in this area. Professor Wang has trained more than 100 clinicians, medical doctors, PhD and undergraduate students who now form the backbone of China’s medical vanguard in the prevention and treatment of liver diseases. Since the 1970s, he has served as director of the Liver Institute of Hubei College of TCM. His extensive research on treating liver diseases with Chinese medicine has helped this institution become China’s leading research center for liver diseases. Professor Wang also founded the Chinese Journal of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine on Liver Diseases, China’s most influential publication on integrative treatment of liver diseases.

His book, Chinese Medicine for the Prevention of Liver and Gall Diseases has won the prestigious Li-Fu Award of Traditional Medicine in Taiwan. Most recently he was elected the Chairman of the Specialty Committee of Liver Disease under the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies.

Dr. Dan Wen, President of Honso USA, Inc.

Dr. Wen has degrees in Western and Chinese medicine and an extensive background in clinical and laboratory research. He has been trained under Prof. Boxiang Wang at the Liver Institute of Hubei College of TCM from 1985 to 1988. His experience includes a three-year stint at the Mayo Clinic to conduct research in gastroenterology, and an NIH study on GI absorption at Washington University School of Medicine St. Louis.

Since 1995, he has worked in research and development and marketing of Chinese herbs in America. In 2000, he became president of Honso USA, Inc., and is involved with two FDA approved phase II clinical trials in the treatment of hepatitis C and liver cirrhosis with Chinese herbal medicine.
